Venezuela Death Toll Continues to Climb, Sending Country Into Deeper Crisis

The 7.2-and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes that rattled Venezuela on June 24 were the most powerful that the nation had seen in over 100 years. In addition to the tragic death toll in the thousands, the natural disaster has been blamed for over 16,700 injuries.

The impact goes far beyond the casualties. According to Jorge Rodriguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, over 21,470 people are sheltering in makeshift camps, while another 17,907 are without housing.
