West Coast Braces for Another Round of Rain in Days Ahead
Christy Bowen
3 hours agoIt has only been a few days since Southern California was hit with a surge of moisture left from what was once Tropical Storm Mario. The region has been drying out since that time; however, forecasters are warning that another storm could usher in more wet weather for much of the western U.S. Here is a look at what is coming up next for this part of the country.
New Storm Coming Ashore from the Pacific in the Western U.S.
A new storm is taking aim at California and beyond this week. In addition to bringing in the chance of localized flooding, the system will also raise the threat of lightning-induced wildfires. It will be dry and pleasant leading up to the arrival of the latest storm, giving Southern California the chance to dry out after Mario's remnants delivered a month's worth of rain to many communities.
The next infusion of moisture is forecast to move ashore from the Pacific Ocean into Monday. The central and southern coastlines of California will be the first to see the impacts at this time. The rain intensity is expected to pick up late Monday in this zone.
Los Angeles and San Diego are not forecast to see significant rainfall out of this system. If any showers fire up, it is not anticipated to rival the amount of rain that the two metro areas saw to end the week. San Diego was particularly soggy on Thursday with nearly a half of an inch recorded.
Central California will be the region most likely to see localized flooding. The heaviest rain bands will set up on Tuesday and Wednesday in this part of the Golden State. Although the former Mario moved through the state, forecasters are warning that the next storm on deck could linger a bit more.
There is also the chance that this weather maker could slow its speed even further, resulting in the chance of rain showers and thunderstorms at the end of the week for the interior portions of the Southwest. The highest chance of rain and cloudy conditions in places such as Las Vegas will be on Friday.
