It has been a bizarre winter for much of the western U.S. The season started on a soggy note; however, the first of the year brought a dry and unseasonably warm pattern to California and beyond. What is up next for this slice of the country? Read on for all of the details.

More Rain and Snow on the Way to California and the West

The roller coaster weather for the West is going to continue into next week. After starting the winter with plenty of rain and snow, the moisture machine turned off across California. The moisture returned early in the week as the storm train fired up once again.

The first wave of rain and snow reached California on Tuesday, dumping 1 to 2 inches of rain over the central and southern portions of the state. Officials fielded about two dozen reports of minor flash flooding as the precipitation roared in from the Pacific.

It was also a windy day with winds reaching speeds of up to 70 mph. The winds knocked out power to about 8,000 people in California.
