While the temperatures in some cities in the U.S. regularly crack the century mark, this level of heat can be elusive for other communities. Some of the cities that you might expect to see this level of heat regularly rarely hit this benchmark. Here are a few of the cities that may surprise you.

Tampa, Florida

Despite its location along the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tampa reached 100°F for the first time on July 27, 2025, breaking a record that stood back to 1890. What explains the lack of 100-degree days in Tampa? Typically, sea-breeze cooling off the Gulf caps highs below 100, but a northerly/NE flow brought drier air and less marine moderation when this new record was set.
