The latest report out of the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service demonstrates that less snow is falling on a global scale. This is not the news that winter sports enthusiasts are wanting to hear heading into the ski and snowboard season.

However, there are still many ski resorts that are going to offer exceptional conditions this year. Read on for all of the details.

Decline in Snow Activity Reported Around the World

According to the report by Copernicus, the middle latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere are experiencing the most significant decline in snow activity. This encompasses the areas to the north of the tropics and to the south of the Arctic, including some of the world's most popular ski resorts.

This data was exemplified last season when resorts in the U.S., Switzerland, Spain, and Austria were forced to close early because of unseasonably warm temperatures.

This uptick in the mercury at the hands of global warming has translated to lesser amounts of snow during the winter. Pointing to the drastic situation in some parts of the planet, Bolivia's Chacaltaya ski resort was forced to close permanently when a glacier melted away.

Ski resorts located at lower elevations are most in danger of experiencing the negative impacts of warmer temperatures. As such, experts are advising winter sports enthusiasts to choose resorts located at higher altitudes. In North America, this includes many of the resorts in the Colorado Rockies while Europeans will see the best conditions in the Western Alps.

These areas tend to see longer snow seasons with consistently cold temperatures. In addition, those resorts located in the higher terrains are also able to make snow via machines more easily because of the colder temperatures needed to support this endeavor.

Here are some of the best resorts around the world to consider for your winter vacation for the most reliable snow conditions.
