Mars’ weather is similar to Earth’s in several ways. Yet the planet remains extremely cold because it orbits about 1.5 times farther from the Sun than Earth and has a much thinner atmosphere.

NASA currently operates multiple missions on Mars that regularly record weather and atmospheric data, giving scientists a detailed look at the planet’s climate.

So what’s the weather on Mars really like, and how does it compare to our own world?

Temperatures

How cold is Mars? In general, Mars is much colder than Earth, with temperatures that vary dramatically by location and time of day.
