The Old Farmer's Almanac has officially weighed in on how it thinks the long-range March forecast for the U.S. will develop. This historic publication has a long-standing tradition of predicting weather conditions for weeks in advance across the country. What does the almanac have to say about the month of March? Read on for the almanac's predictions.

Eastern U.S.

The month started on a mild note in the Northeast. A warming trend is taking hold over the first week of the month, bringing record high temperatures to some parts of the region. However, winter is not done menacing this corner of the country. The weather is predicted to turn cold with more chances of wintry precipitation around March 10 through March 14. This wintry period will be followed by a mild and sunny pattern for the third week of March, before the month finishes on a soggy note.

Like the Northeast, the Atlantic corridor will see a mild start to March with rain and snow a possibility during the March 10 - 14 time frame. The middle of March will bring chilly but sunny conditions, while the month will end on a warm yet wet note.

As is typical for this time of the year, the higher elevations of the Appalachians will see more snow by the middle of the month. The greatest snow accumulations are expected for the southern part of this mountain range. Warmer temperatures with the chance of scattered rain showers will bring the month to a close in the Appalachians.
