The nights are getting longer, providing more opportunities to get outside and check out the latest celestial happenings.  What do the October night skies have in store for stargazers? From the first supermoon of the year to a pair of meteor showers, there is plenty to look forward to this month. Here is a look at the October celestial calendar.

Super Harvest Moon - October 6

The start of October will get off to a dazzling start with the first supermoon of 2025, also the first in a line of three straight supermoons. The closer distance to the Earth makes supermoons appear to be larger and brighter than normal full moons.

This particular super moon is known as the Harvest Moon. The moniker signifies that it is the full moon that rises closest to the autumn equinox. The Harvest Moon typically happens in September, making the timing of the 2025 event more notable. The Super Harvest Moon will shine on the night of Monday, October 6, and into the early morning hours of Tuesday.
