Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes the annual ritual that affects nearly every American: daylight saving time. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, most of the United States will set clocks forward one hour, shifting daylight from early morning to evening hours.

The time change coincides with days that are already growing noticeably longer as winter transitions to spring. But while many welcome the extra evening sunlight, the shift also means darker mornings (at least initially) and one less hour of sleep on the night of the change.

The Key Date: Sunday, March 8, 2026

Daylight saving time officially begins at 2:00 am local time on Sunday, March 8. At that moment, clocks automatically "spring forward" to 3:00 am, instantly erasing an hour from the night.

For most people, the practical impact means going to bed Saturday night and waking up Sunday morning having lost an hour. Smartphones and computers typically adjust automatically, but analog clocks, car dashboards, microwaves, and other devices may need manual updating.
