Fall is in the air for most of the U.S. Shorter days and less intense sunshine are already translating to cooler temperatures. Are the summerlike 80-degree days in the rearview mirror for everyone? Not every U.S. city sees the start of the autumn weather by the time that the astronomical fall kicks off in mid-September.

Some areas slip into the chilly weather as early as September, while other regions take longer to slide out of the hot and steamy conditions. Read on for a deeper dive on when you can expect to see the first and last 80-degree days of various cities throughout the country.

New York City saw unseasonably cool temperatures for September's U.S. Open tennis tournament this year. However, there have also been years when the Big Apple hangs on to the toasty conditions well into October. You can expect the last 80-degree day of the season to happen in early October in the nation's most populated metro area.
