There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the late-week forecast for the eastern U.S. While forecasters know that it is going to be cold, the big question is where the snow, rain, and ice will set up. Here is a look at what the latest forecast models are signaling.

Fast-Moving Storm to Bring Shot of Snow for Central and Eastern U.S.

A broad band of snow and ice is expected to form along the northern flank of a fast-moving storm system pushing into the eastern U.S. An abundance of cold air in place ahead of the storm will lay the groundwork for significant amounts of wintry precipitation. The southern edge of the storm will feature heavy rain.

At this point, snow is in the forecast for a zone from Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas through the end of the day Thursday. The snow will track farther to the northeast on Friday, reaching New Jersey, southeastern New York State, and southern New England by the end of the day.

A fast-moving storm spreads snow, ice, and heavy rain from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic, with cold air supporting wintry weather along its northern edge. (NOAA)
