Why You Should Never Ignore Flood Warnings

When weather forecasters issue flood warnings, they're not being overly dramatic. These alerts come only when dangerous water levels threaten lives and property in specific areas. Flash flood safety becomes life-or-death because moving water carries incredible power that most people seriously underestimate.

Six inches of rushing water can knock adults off their feet. Just two feet of flowing water sweeps away cars like toys. Water safety experts know floods kill more people yearly than tornadoes, hurricanes, and lightning combined, yet many folks still drive around barricades or ignore evacuation orders.

How Fast Things Turn Deadly

Flash flood safety situations develop faster than people expect, especially in cities where concrete prevents water from soaking into ground naturally. During heavy rainfall, storm drains get overwhelmed quickly, turning streets into raging rivers within minutes.
