Wildfires are popping up all over the western U.S. as the region endures another heat wave. Here is the latest on the wildfire situation in this part of the U.S.

Oregon Fire Destroys Four Homes

Four homes were completely destroyed over the weekend at the hands of the Flat Fire burning in central Oregon. Local officials are warning that thousands more structures are being threatened by the blaze that is roaring through Deschutes and Jefferson counties. According to the Oregon Fire Marshal's office, roughly 4,000 homes are currently under some level of evacuation notice. Of this number, about 1,000 homes have been ordered to leave immediately.

As of late Sunday night, over 800 structures were located within or right next to the fire perimeter line. The Flat Fire has burned over 22,000 acres and is only 5% contained as of the Monday update. Fire crews are facing challenges from Mother Nature as temperatures climb into the triple digits and humidity levels remain low. The rugged terrain of this part of Oregon also makes it more difficult for crews to fight the flames on the ground.
