Mother Nature is creating a false sense of spring across the central and eastern U.S. Record-challenging high temperatures the last few days have left many people pulling out shorts and sunglasses. However, winter is not quite done in this part of the country. Here is a look at the wintry weather that is just on the horizon for the Midwest and the East Coast in the days ahead.

Arctic Air Supporting Development of Wintry Precipitation for Northern U.S., Erasing Recent Warmth

A blast of Arctic air is going to sweep away the record-breaking warmth that has been expanding over the central and eastern U.S. since the weekend. The plentiful cold air will also support the development of late-season snow in some areas.

The change in the weather will come as quite a shock to those who have already broken out their summer essentials. The mercury has been hovering at the highest levels since last fall to start the week across much of the eastern half of the U.S. New daily record highs are being challenged in several communities in a zone from the Ohio Valley to the Atlantic coastline. In addition to warm afternoons, overnight lows have also bottomed out at record high minimums.

For instance, New England is enjoying widespread highs in the 60s and 70s. Most areas of the mid-Atlantic and farther south are spending time in the 70s and 80s, making it feel more like May than the first half of March.
