Just because winter is approaching, it does not mean that you cannot enjoy the beauty of America's national parks. In fact, some parks are actually more stunning and accessible during the winter season. Not only will you encounter fewer crowds, but the wintry precipitation adds another layer of magic. From frozen waterfalls and snowcapped mountains, here are some of the best national parks to visit when the temperature drops.

California: Yosemite National Park

Do not let the cold weather keep you away from California's Yosemite National Park. This park shines in the winter, highlighted by the views of the snow-covered Half Dome and the granite cliffs of El Capitan.

The lack of crowds when compared to the busy tourist season means a more peaceful experience out on the trails and while checking out Tunnel View. The time around the holidays is particularly magical. Visitors can lean into the season by going on a snowshoeing adventure in the Mariposa Grove. Or lace up those ice skates and head to the rink in Curry Village.
