November is the definitive marker between fall and winter, offering a bit of everything when it comes to the weather. From snow to severe storms to tropical threats, here is what you can typically expect from Mother Nature this month.

Midwest "Witch" Storms

Halloween is over, but that does not mean that the spooky weather is buried. Those in the Midwest know the danger of the so-called "Witches of November," a term used to describe the powerful windstorms that whip up in late October and November in this part of the country. The winds become more prolific due to the seasonal handoff between fall and winter, a time of great transition and volatility in the weather patterns.

The wind generated from these witch storms is capable of creating substantial damage to trees and power lines. Storms that roar across the Great Lakes are also known to create rough waters capable of disrupting shipping on these major waterways.
