End of April to Go Out on a Cool and Wet Note in the Northeast

3 hours agoThe nice start to the work week across the Northeast is not expected to last long. The region will see cooler temperatures and soggy conditions as the calendar flips from April to May this week. Read on for all of the details of this roller coaster weather pattern.
Change in the Weather on the Horizon for the Northeast
Spring has ushered in a little bit of everything to the Northeast over the last few weeks. The pattern will continue this week, as warm and pleasant weather gives way to rain, late-season frost and freezes, and temperatures more reminiscent of late March and early April.
It was a damp and cool weekend for a large swath of the Northeast. The region will enjoy a brief rebound for the first few days of the week before the next wave of cool air and moisture arrives. Temperatures that topped out in the 50s and the low 60s will inch up into the upper 60s and 70s on Monday. This will be a good day to get outside for yard work or recreational activities.
The nice weather on Monday will come as an area of high pressure expands over the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic, erasing the low clouds that hovered over the weekend. The coastal areas will remain on the cooler side thanks to a clockwise flow of air around the zone of high pressure. The direction of this air flow will inherently bring in cooler winds onshore, putting a lid on the warmth building in areas farther inland.
The populated Interstate 95 corridor will remain nice on Tuesday. However, the weather will take a turn for the worse across some parts of the Appalachians and the northern Ohio Valley at this time. Rain showers and locally gusty thunderstorms are expected to come in from the west as the day progresses.
A storm circulating offshore could also result in scattered rain showers for some parts of southern and eastern New England by the end of the day Tuesday. The arrival of the moisture from the coastal storm will coincide with the buildup of clouds along the East Coast.
The clouds and rain will become more entrenched on Wednesday. A storm chugging to the east from the Midwest will translate to substantial precipitation for much of the Northeast and New England. Widespread rainfall totals of half an inch to an inch are expected out of this weather maker.
