History was made on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 as a robotic spacecraft, built by Intuitive Machines, landed on the moon.

Not only did it mark the first privately built craft to touch down on the Moon, but it also claimed the title of the first American vehicle to accomplish such a feat in over half a century.

This news has the public shocked and intrigued, and everyone wondering: did we really land on the moon again?

Odysseus Lands on the Moon

Dubbed the Nova-C lander and affectionately known as Odysseus, the moon lander landed at approximately 6:23 p.m. ET, after a late-stage setback involving its onboard laser instruments.

This successful touchdown solidified its status as the pioneer American spacecraft to touch the moon's surface since the Apollo moon landing, Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Amidst an enthusiatic atmosphere at mission control, Chief Technology Officer Tim Crain stated, "Houston, Odysseus has found its new home."

As anticipated, confirmation was delayed for a few minutes as the moon lander made its final approach, temporarily severing communication with mission controllers.
