The eastern U.S. is not the only part of the country getting a taste of winter this first week of December. A large portion of the West is also going to get caught up in a widespread snow event. Here is a look at what is happening this week across the western half of the nation.

More Snow on Deck for the Rockies

The Rockies will be the first part of the West to see the wintry precipitation fire up again this week as a storm that erupted over interior British Columbia to start the week dives to the southeast. The forecast is calling for a large swath of snow totaling 1 to 3 inches of fresh accumulation for much of Montana, Wyoming, and the central and western portions of Colorado. Some areas of the northern Plains may also see snow out of this event. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially in the higher terrains.

After breaking its snow drought early Saturday, Denver will once again see the flakes fly. The Mile High City has only picked up 0.2 inches of snow thus far this season, compared to the historical average of 9.3 inches by the beginning of December.

Denver is forecast to see the snow begin late Tuesday and linger through much of the day Wednesday. The forecast is calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight Tuesday, along with a low of about 27 degrees. Another inch of snow is expected on Wednesday morning before the moisture begins to taper off. It will remain chilly in this part of Colorado with a high of just 30 degrees during the peak afternoon heating hours.
