Northeast Braces for a Hot, Humid Wednesday Before Storms Arrive
Christy Bowen
2 hours agoThe heat and humidity are on the uptick in the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast this week as the heat dome that has been building over the Midwest and Great Lakes expands farther east. Here is a look at how toasty it is going to get in the coming days.
Real Feel Readings Over 100 Degrees on Tap for the Northeast by Wednesday
The good news is that the northeastern quadrant of the U.S. is not expected to see the same degree of heat experienced over the Fourth of July. The bad news is that temperatures are still forecast to peak at 10 to 15 degrees above the historical averages for the middle of July, a time of the year already known for extreme heat.
New York City will see the mercury soar into the upper 90s on Wednesday. When combined with the humidity and sunny skies, real feel readings will easily surpass the century mark.
You will find a similar forecast down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia. The City of Brotherly Love is forecast to see actual air temperature readings of about 100 degrees on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the oppressive heat and humidity, skies are expected to take on a hazy appearance as smoke from the fires burning near Lake Superior drifts into the northeastern U.S. The silver lining of the smoky conditions is that it may bring down the temperatures slightly. However, residents with respiratory conditions will want to be aware of the potential for poor air quality at times.
