Severe erosion fueled by pounding winter waves threatens multimillion-dollar houses along Jupiter, Florida's coast.

This week's incredible video revealed the damage to properties in Jupiter Inlet Colony, just north of Palm Beach. Around 70% of the county’s 47 miles of shoreline suffers critical erosion, said Palm Beach County's Department of Environmental Resources Management.

Homes Belonging to Celebrities Are Among Those at Risk

The endangered homes include riverfront properties belonging to rock musician Kid Rock and Conair heiress Babe Rizzuto.

Valued at $5.6 million, Kid Rock's house appears in video footage showing a checkerboard tile patio. Just three homes away, Rizzuto has listed her $22 million residence for sale. The large waterfront house features a distinctive triangular pool.

While El Niño contributes to Florida's stormy winter weather, a particular weather pattern in January likely caused the most harm.

As Lead Long-Range Expert Paul Pastelok described, two high-pressure systems left the Carolina coast later that month. The resulting persistent easterly winds and high waves pounded Jupiter's shore for over ten days.
