Severe Storms Target Plains and Midwest to Start the Week

3 hours agoThe storms that brought the weekend to a close on Sunday will persist into the early part of the work week across the Plains and beyond. Here is a look at the stormy weather pattern continuing to menace the central portions of the U.S., including when and where you should expect the next batch to erupt.
Work Week to Start With a Bang in the Plains States
Frequent waves of thunderstorms will be the story heading into the new week for a large swath of the Plains states. Sunday's severe impacts stretched from eastern Montana and into Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Motorists getting a head start on summer road trips encountered difficulties across portions of interstates 29, 80, 90, and 94.
The disruptive weather is forecast to train over the same general area on Monday. Potential impacts include large hail, high winds, and localized flooding.
Goodland, Kansas, will be at the center of the storms on Monday. Do not let the calm start to the day fool you in this part of the central Plains. Storms are expected to move in during the afternoon and evening hours. It will be a breezy day with winds whipping around from the east-southeast at 15 to 25 mph. Temperatures will climb into the mid 80s before sliding into the upper 50s overnight.
The western edge of Monday's potential storms will set up over eastern Colorado. The city of Limon could see an errant thunderstorm develop in the latter part of the day.
The moisture-rich storms could dip as far as Texas and Oklahoma as the week progresses. Forecasters are also predicting that a secondary zone of severe weather will set up over the Southeast on Monday, raising the risk of flooding in an area that has been the frequent target of heavy rain.
