Start of Meteorological Spring Met with Wintry Weather in the Midwest and Northeast

2 hours agoDespite the official start of the meteorological spring on Sunday, March 1, it will feel more like the dead of winter for much of the Midwest and the Northeast. Here is a look at what to expect as March indeed roars in like a lion.
March Roaring in Like a Lion Across the Midwest and the Northeast
A series of winter storms is continuing to deliver snow and ice in a zone from the Midwest to the Northeast. These wintry impacts are being fueled by a brief intrusion of Arctic air from the north. Forecasters are warning that several rounds of snow, ice, and rain will affect approximately 120 million people in the coming days as winter and spring play a game of tug-of-war. In addition to the usual risks of dicey road conditions, the back-and-forth of the temperatures will also present the threat of ice jams and urban flooding.
The latest forecast models signal the development of a strip of snow setting up from Montana to the east into southern Michigan through Saturday. Cities such as Rochester, Minnesota, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will see 1 to 3 inches of fresh snow out of this winter weather maker.
Farther east, the unseasonably warm temperatures will linger through Saturday in the Ohio Valley and the interior portions of the Northeast. Plentiful amounts of sunshine will bring the real feel readings up into the 60s across much of this zone.
