Thursday is shaping up to be a volatile day as storms in the Midwest and into the Northeast bring severe impacts.

In addition to the usual suspects of heavy rain, strong winds, and hail, forecasters are also predicting that tornadoes could make an appearance. Here is a look at this rocky forecast.

Storm System in the South Journeys to the North

It is not going to be a good day for outdoor activities on Thursday for many communities in the Midwest and the Northeast. The same weather maker that has been generating stormy conditions and heavy rain across the southern half of the U.S. over the last few days will take a turn to the northeast by Thursday.

After storms in the Midwest and the Northeast pound the region, this storm will push up through New England to bring the week to a close.

There are a number of major metropolitan areas that will be at risk of seeing severe weather develop on Thursday.

This includes a storm in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C. More severe weather is also in the forecast for Charleston, West Virginia, a part of the Appalachians that is still recovering from last week's bout of storms that caused extensive damage and cut off power for thousands.
