Survivors Recall Terrifying Moments as Texas Floods Claim Lives

The 18 youth summer camps along the Guadalupe River had long been considered the heart of this community, creating cherished summer memories for generations of children.
The area's river valleys also drew nature lovers to campgrounds, RV parks, and vacation rentals. But this river basin had a history of flash flooding due to its rugged limestone bed. It had once been called "one of the three most dangerous regions" in the country for flash flooding.
Early Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch highlighting Kerr County as at high risk. By Thursday evening, an entire summer's worth of rain began to fall.
