27 Children and Staff Killed in Texas Summer Camp Flood Tragedy

A devastating flash flood in central Texas has claimed the lives of at least 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, a private Christian all-girls summer camp. The heartbreaking toll was confirmed in a statement released by the camp as search and rescue operations entered their fourth day.

“Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy,” Camp Mystic wrote on its website, asking for prayers and support as the community reels from the loss.

It remains unclear how many of the victims were children versus adult staff members. Officials statewide reported a total of at least 81 fatalities linked to the catastrophic flooding since it began on Friday.

Local authorities in Kerr County, where Camp Mystic is located, said on Sunday that 10 children and one counselor were still unaccounted for. It's not known if that figure has since changed.
