Stargazers get a rare treat next week when two meteor showers peak on the same night, creating the best shooting star display since spring.

The Alpha Capricornids and Southern Delta Aquariids reach their combined peak Tuesday night, July 29-30. While neither shower typically draws much attention alone, together they'll produce up to 20 meteors per hour. Some may flare into brilliant fireballs, briefly matching the moon's brightness.

"Late July in 2025 will be a great time to view meteor activity, as the moon will be in the evening sky and setting before the activity is strongest," the American Meteor Society explained on its website.

When and Where to Look

The prime viewing window runs from midnight to 3 a.m. local time, though patient observers might catch meteors throughout the night. Unlike most meteor showers that peak sharply, these July showers stay active for days, offering decent viewing any night through early August.
