What will the waning days of 2023 bring for the East Coast? Will the previous bouts of rain move out of the region? Here is a look at the upcoming forecast for this corner of the U.S.

Warm and Wet Weather Has Been the Story for the Northeast

It has been a warmer than average start to the winter for the Northeast. Temperatures have been hovering between 3 and 6 degrees above normal. The mild temperatures have resulted in precipitation falling as rain rather than snow for the Northeast and New England.

Some communities in New England have seen repeated flooding issues thanks to the heavy rain as of late.

The latest round of wet weather hit just in time for Christmas. However, warmer air has contributed to a mild start to the winter, helping to offset the impacts of the persistent rain.

For instance, while the northern Plains grappled with blizzard conditions on Christmas Day, the Northeast enjoyed highs in the upper 40s and low 50s.
