Right on cue, Old Man Winter is ushering in the start of the meteorological winter with a monster storm system set to bring accumulating snow to several U.S. cities for the first time this season. The wintry weather is a continuation of what much of the central and eastern portions of the country have been dealing with over the last week. Read on for the latest details about what to expect in the days ahead.

Winter Storm Arrives Right on Time for the Midwest, Northeast, and Beyond

The first few days of December are being ushered in with yet another winter weather maker. The latest snow event will stretch across nearly two dozen states from Kansas to Maine through the middle of the week. While the Midwest bore the brunt of the weekend storm, this latest wave of precipitation will also push into the interior portions of the Northeast.

Plenty of cold air in place over the Midwest and the Great Lakes will help to support the development of snow and ice on Tuesday and into Wednesday. The zone of wintry precipitation will dive farther south this week when compared to the weekend storm. This will bring areas as far south as Oklahoma and Arkansas into the mix.

The snow fired up on Monday across the central portions of the Plains states and to the east into the Mississippi Valley. A few inches of snow were reported in cities such as Kansas City, St. Louis, and Omaha. Roads quickly became slippery in Topeka, Kansas, as the day progressed and the snow continued to fall at a fast clip.
