Northeast in Line for Storms Advancing from the West

The busy Interstate 95 corridor in the northeastern corner of the U.S. is bracing for a surge of heat and humidity that will trigger widespread thunderstorm development beginning on Wednesday. Here is what you need to know about this wet and stormy forecast.

Summer Like Heat Will Also Bring Summer Like Storms to the Northeast

While the arrival of summer like heat will feel good to most residents of the Northeast, the uptick in the mercury will also bring along the risk of thunderstorms. Some of these storms could bring severe impacts to the region while also disrupting outdoor activities and travel.

It has already been an unseasonably warm start to the week with the temperatures expected to reach their peak on Wednesday across the Northeast. Readings will hover in the mid to upper 80s for most of the area with some communities seeing temperatures inch up into the low 90s for the first time of the season. Forecasters are warning that high humidity levels will send the real feel readings even higher.

While it will be unusually hot for the middle of May, temperatures are not expected to break any records in the major cities of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, or Boston. However, some portions of western Maryland and up into the southwestern corner of Maine could see daily high records fall with the surge of heat.
