The flakes are flying with intensity across the Sierra Nevada, a part of the West that is forecast to be buried in over 100 inches of snow during the weather this weekend.

Here is the latest on this monster California winter storm and blizzard.

Major California Winter Storm Whipping Up Across Sierra Nevada

The biggest snow storm of the season is unleashing across the Sierra Nevada and the Siskiyous to close out the week, triggering travel shutdowns and a number of other significant disruptions.

Forecasters are predicting that the storm will dump 6 to 10 feet of snow along with strong winds over the weather this weekend.

In addition to severely hampering travel, the Sierra Nevada snow storm will also create a high risk of power outages. Snow is expected to fall at a rate of up to 4 inches per hour during the height of the storm. The winds clocking in at 60 to 75 mph will produce blizzard conditions and snowdrifts.

Motorists planning on using Donner Pass along Interstate 80 and portions of Interstate 6 in Northern California will want to beware that these roads will likely see intermittent closures. It is also likely that the Siskiyou Summit in southern Oregon will be closed at times.
