The month of April signals the beginning of the gardening season. While it is still too early to do most of the planting in some areas of the country, there are tasks that you can knock off your list now to get a head start on your garden. Here are a few chores to get started on early in the season.

Evaluate Danger Left From Winter's Wrath

One of the first steps before you start the process of spring gardening is to assess the damage left from the winter. Colder temperatures, insect infestations, and damage left by animals can all wreak havoc on a garden during the winter months. Specific tasks include gathering dead branches, assessing the health of all of the plants, and checking for frozen or cracked bark in the trees.

Doing a little cleanup before it gets too warm can go a long way in ensuring that the garden is ready for the planting season. This is also a good time to clean patio furniture that has been exposed to the elements all winter.

Start the Weeding Process

Nobody wants to start the weeding process; however, this is the ideal time to get started on this dreaded chore. This is because it is inherently easier to find the spreading vines when they are still exposed after the winter season. Invasive weeds are easier to spot before flowers pop and vegetation greens up.
